We mentioned this in the intro—but a key indicator of a home that may need repiping now, or at least soon, is the actual age of your home and its plumbing system. Pipes do have an expiration date, just like anything else.
The older your plumbing system gets, the more likely it is to suffer from rust and corrosion, leading to pinhold leaks or even bigger leaks. How long a plumbing pipe lasts depends on the materials it is made out of, but generally speaking, you should probably consider at least having your pipes inspected once they’re over 50 years old.
